I have a Dodge 4.7 and heard a lot of good
things about the Superchips 3715 microtuner.
I checked their website and was careful to
purchase the version and serial number that
was compatible with my truck. Unfortunately
I got the dreaded "Requires update - Call
Superchips Error". I wanted to get a refund
but agreed to let my auto parts dealer work
with Superchips to get it updated. The auto
parts guy got assurances from Superchips that
there would be a quick turnaround in the mail
for the update. Auto parts guy sends it express
mail to Superchips and 9 days later it has not
even been calibrated.I called Superchips to check
on it and there is a big backlog of microtuners
to be updated and not enough staff to handle it.
This item cost me 400 dollars and it isn't
worth waiting the additional week and half that
I was assured (no guarantees - maybe longer?).
I'm getting a refund today and getting a Fastman
custom flash which I should have done in the
first place.

Note to Superchips -
Please do not advertise microtuners that do
not work. Get them working first - then sell
them. You should have just sent a brand new
working 3715 to the auto parts guy.

Bear with them, you'll get a good one soon. Mine worked right out of the box....and noticed a considerable difference as soon as I loaded up the performance program.

I do understand your posting to point out
the quality of the product. But I have
to disagree on "bearing with them". How
long should I wait? The tech support guy
seemed to have a relaxed attitude that
they would get to it eventually. Why
should I wait for them? Why shouldn't they
overnight a newly updated off the shelf
working microtuner to me? I doubt this item
is worth that kind of business practice.

The bottom line is they should stop selling
the 3715 until all the 4.7 VINs are updated
and working.

Just wait to get it back and it will be worth it. Between now and then, keep the 93 octane in the tank and keep a neck brace handy. When the programmer comes in and is in sync with your truck, the results are out of this world.

I had to send mine back twice too, but it is understandable with a new vehicle. There have always been recalls on first-year model vehicles and there will be some with aftermarket tuners and programmers.

Just be happy that the SC guys are not rushing to put out a product and mess up somewhere. The computer is a complex beast and one mistake could foul up quite a bit on the truck...

...think about product liability...

Mine worked right out of the box,

but I agree with your statements rrer....

They should not have had ANY 're-do's of a brand new product!

Mine was for sale. Maybe still is. On reason to keep it is it's the only thing that will even touch the timing on this here 01, 4.7 PCM.

Hey. At least SOMEONE made a programmer for our trucks. I'd rather wait for a reflash than have to send in my actual PCM form my vehicle each time I wanted a mod done to it.

I also believe they should not sell something that don't work right. Get them right then sell them. As Todd said "there should not be any re-do's".
Opie I don't know where you get that they are not rushing to put out a product and mess up somewhere. What do you think has happened here? Many people including yourself paid alot of money for something then had to send it back for re-programming 1 or 2 times before it worked.

Bill you probably got good turn around time because of who you are. Your Bill White of KRC performance.

If what rrerys says is true (and I have no reason to doubt him) it's horsehockey he shouldn't have to put up with.

I'm am not by any means slamming Superchips but if they told him they would turn it around fast, THEY SHOULD. Truth goes a long way in business. End of story.

You guys gotta remember how many different computer flashes there are for our trucks. Depending on the year and version of the current PCM program you have right now all play an important part in whether your tuner works right away.

T-racy, I am a nobody and mine worked right out of the box...I also didn't have the latest dealership flashes to my PCM, my last flash was the death flash. Some of the others out here probably have later flashes that caused these problems and yes, faster turn around times would be better.

I agree that every tuner should work out of the box but its new and everything that comes out new doesn't always work right away. How many times have you had to update your Microsoft Windows?

Graphite got it right, at least someone is making a tuner for our trucks. I was ready to sell my truck after I got the death flash. Damn thing wouldn/t spin the tires unless I was on a wet road or in the dirt. I can lay 20' of rubber now and do notice a better MPG when I drive like a smart responsible person instead of a lead foot. I used to see 13-15 mpg on avg when driving to work on the interstate at a constant 70 and now I see 18-21 sometimes on that same drive with the avg in the high teens.

I'm not sure KRC will pull any more weight than anybody else. Anyway, I didn't do that. I was a hardass though about getting it done asap and that probably helped. Squeaky wheel gets the grease, right?

And it works great.

Superchips should simply put the following notice
on their website:

**Some of our microtuners may require an update
to calibrate the device with your vehicle's
stock PCM configuration. We will expedite
processing of all returned items to our
customers**

Just warn their customers that there are known
issues with the 3715.

Was the engine knocking or pinging? What are you running for fuel?

hate to hijack but does anyone know of anybody that can custom tune the newer four plug pcm ?
Would like to run a slightly larger cam than SC programs are written for. But will make do with what I have to.
Thanks for any info.
