Subject: Oxygen Sensor Replacement IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota with a 4.7l V8 and am trying to replace one of my oxygen sensors. The problem I am having is I am replacing the factory O2 sensor with a Bosch Universal and cannot figure out the wiring. On the factory O2 sensor there is a Black wire connected to a black wire running up the chassis toward the motor, a light blue wire connected to a white wire running up the chassis toward the motor, a white wire connected to a black with blue striped wire running up the chassis toward the motor and a black wire connected to a orange wire running up the chassis toward the motor. Now on the Bosch universal O2 sensor there are one black wire, two white wires, and one gray wire. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks.

Message: I just installed an Autometer Air/Fuel gauge on my 2002 Dakota 5.9. The stock upstream O2 sensor (the one that matters) has the same wiring colors as your Bosch Universal replacement:
Black wire: Signal
Grey wire: Ground
(2) White wires: Sensor heater
The signal wire is the critical one because it operates on low volatage, between 0.0-1.0 volt. Using a voltmeter can verify this. If you aren't sure and don;t have a manual, a good dealer service department can map the wire codes for you.
Hope this helps.
