Message: If it was working, why did you try to fix it?
Anyway, here's a coupla thoughts for you.
Carburetor cleaner in or on the Air Flow Sensor Might have messed it up. That stuff eats up some plastics. The Air flow sensor has a wire filament or two which passes an amount of electrical current based on the temperature of the air passing over it. It's usually somewhere between the air filter and the throttle body. It must be clean to work properly.
Or that cleaner might have killed your O2 sensor. Some of those cleaners are not O2 sensor friendly.
Warnings are on the can, etc.
Or that cleaner might have broke loose a chunk of stuff which is now blocking an Idle Air Bypass port.

Message: First off, punch your friend in the head. Why you would let your buddy do that is beyond me. Take it to a mechanic and have him listen to it.

Message: how do i check a 02 sensor is there a way to tell if its bad or not im thinking its a bad sensor because the car was running perfect until the carborater cleaner was sprayed into the intake it idols perfect but as soon as u put a load on it it stumbles and when i drive it down the road and get on it alittle bit it will backfire through the intake several times and the service engine soon ligh keeps blinking!!

Message: most carb/injector cleaners are O2 compatible. do you just want to throw parts at it? have you checked the codes yet? you may want to invest 20 bucks in a haynes manual. it should have the info you're looking for.

Message: try running it with the #2 injector unplugged and see if there is a diff. plugs are cheap. i would still change that #2 plug. other than those 2 things it may the EGR or O2. i am sure the EGR is a digital one and not cheap. sorry i can't help more. that gm 3.8 is a great engine and been around a long long time. it can't be much.

Message: if i'm not mistaken that 3.8 has 3 coils, 1 for every 2 cyl. you could try swapping the coil with for the #2 cyl with another and see if the miss moves with the coil. should need just an 8mm socket for that.

Message: I agree with Andy_d, punch him in the head, then knee him in the gonads. first, carb cleaner isn't a cure all. unless the throttle is sticking it isn't going to do much of anything, outside of push gunk into your engine.
second, are you getting a MIL? Malfunciton Indicator Light? "check engine"? even without, you may, or at least SHOULD have a default trouble code... GM uses OBDII, which is a great diagnositic agent, any engine problems are stored for cpu memory, and easily obtained... run it down to your local AUTOZONE they'll give you a check engine light diagnosis for free... its the same thing that mechanics do for shops at a charge of over 80 bucks. that code will give you your problem.
to me, it sounds like a fuel management or ignition fault, from the info given. have you tried to reset the PCM to see if it fixes the issue?

Message: hey matt, FYI. GM didn't use OBDII until '96 like everyone else. his '95 is OBDI.
