Message: Wondering if anyone is having the same problem as I am....
2001 4.7 Auto Quad Cab.(34,000 miles). After it sits for more than 4 hours it wouldn't start unless you put the accelerator to the floor. Took it back to dealer - they told me it was a bad intake gasket and map sensor - these were replaced. Still did it - they then flushed out the injectors - it is better, but now when it starts it stumbles for about 10 seconds and spews a cloud of black smoke (like its' flooded). They tell me that the black smoke is carbon coming out of the intake from the injector flush - looks like a way too rich start up condition to me. Motor runs great and no other issues but this one. Always starts instantly when warm. Any ideas? (I've only had the truck for 3 weeks and the dealer is going to have to foot the bill to fix it - if they can find the problem.............)

Message: it sounds like leaky fuel injectors. that would cause long crank times and running rich at first start up.
start the truck with a pressure gage connected to the fuel rail and let it run for a while. observe the pressure. then shut the truck off and keep watching the gage to see if pressure drops. if it does the injectors are probably leaking.
