Im on the verge of removing the fan clutch like most of you have done. I just want to get some info about it. Pros and Cons mostly, mainly what temp does the electric fan come on? Any special tools or tips? Any help would be sweet.

I removed the belt-driven fan last fall. I really haven't noticed any difference other than no more roaring when it's started cold. My temp guage doesn't have any numbers on it, but the electric fan comes on when the needle is dead center. I assume this is about 200`. It only comes on if I'm sitting in a drive-through or stuck in traffic for a while. To remove it, I used a pipe wrench on the nut and gave it a couple of sharp whacks with a rubber mallet and it loosened right up. If I remember correctly, the nut needs to be spun clockwise (looking at the engine from the front of the truck) to loosen it.

Mine has been off for just about 2 years now (02 QC auto AWD 4.7), with no problems.

The electric will come on if the AC or defrost is turned on, so you can control the fan manually if necessary. You can also add a cooler thermostat and a fan temp controller if you want to. I didn't do either of those.

The only time I've seen, or heard, of any hint of problems is when moving slowly in traffic, or 4-wheeling around.

So, just put a wrench on the big nut and turn it counter-clockwise (if you're looking at the front of the engine? Sounds easy enough.

Lurkin is exactly right!
I've had mine off for well over a year now may be two, no problems here in NW Florida. I also put in a 180* Tstat too.

After you add somemore mods to your truck it will feel like the truck can rev-up quicker with the fan gone.

Good luck to you...

I`d put it back, only takes two secs. Also it woudn`t void your whole warranty, just the affected part(blown head gasket). They legally can`t refuse to fix your radio because you have no clutch fan.

I've had mine off 3 years now. 1 year autobahn at speeds of 120 mph cruise and higher. 2 years living in Colorado and South Texas with no problems. Had my Tranny rebuilt 1 time under warranty, no problem from the dealer about it off. One time to have the right head replaced, still no problem from the dealer. In fact I shut the whole dealer ship down in Colorado the first time I pulled my truck in to get the bed aligned. The Mechanics all had to come check out this Dak with the 70mm F&B T-body, and JBA Headers, and dropped 4.5 inches front 5 inches rear, with the exhaust coming out the side in front of the right rear tire, with no clutch fan and looked like an R/T since the bumper was painted all one color, and the roll pan, and the super wide low pro tires on it, and the KenneBell Optimizer II. They all loved it. They liked the way the IAT was rerouted to the Intense Performance Z-Tube CAI. No problem ever getting serviced, they also knew that my truck was to never have the computer reprogrammed for recall reasons or any reason for that matter.

Later,

OK, I have a few questions here guys. I went out to my truck a few mins ago - put a wrench on the large nut against the pulley behind the fan and gave it a few wacks (counterclockwise). It spun the pulley (not the belt) but didn't loosen the nut. Any ideas?

you have to hold the pulley with a screwdiver, threw the holes on the pulley. just lock it in between the finns on the pump.

Just be careful if you guys have an electical problem or your battery drains then you might overheat without that fan on there.

you said it only took 10 min to change to any electric fan? i thought i read that you had to make custom brackets to fit it on and trim the shroud for clearence? you did that all in 10 min
