Subject: broken exaust manifold bolt IP: Logged
Message: Message:
Does anyone have a novel idea for removing a broken exaust manifold bolt from inside of the head??? Took my RT in to get headers installed & when they removed the head shield the head of the bolt fell out & it's busted off inside the head... Looks like it's been broken for a while.. Good ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Message: well yo ucan try a screw extractor kit. but might just have to drill it out. I am shocked the place you took it to didnt do this. goto a garage and ask them how much. those are the only 2 ways I know of. sorry to hear about that. that really sucks.

Message: DodgeBoy:
Take it to a good weld shop and have it removed.
They can weld a nut to it and the heat will help to remove the broken bolt. A good welder can do it,I done it myself and seen it done many times.
It beets removing the head. good luck

Message: Getting the bolt out is not that big of an issue. Access is, though. If a welder can git to it, he can probably do just as he said. But if he can't get to it, don't be surprised if the head has to come off.

Message: Thanks for your thoughts. Yes access is the problem & I am looking for ideas to get it out without pulling the head. It's #5 back on the passenger side... Two reasons the muffler shop didn't try tackling the job, (1) it was Friday, (2) He really opened up his index finger on the heat shield !!!

Message: If you have the space, try a small, very sharp centerpunch. Offset the punch from the center of the bolt and try turning the bolt counter clockwise by tapping the punch with a hammer. I've removed many broken bolts with this method. Good Luck.

Message: I had the same problem with my dakota execpt i have a 4.7. The two lower rear bolts on the passenger side just broke. Lucky for me i was just able to pull out the plastic fender well and had plenty of access from there. Once i got the manifold off the the broken bolts were only finger tight, so i just spun them out
