I've got a '99 dakota r/t that is bone stock. I've only got a few hundred bucks to spend (<500) and I would like to do something that would increase my performance. As far as I know everything including exhaust is stock except that the catalytic converter has had the guts beat out of it. What would be your suggestions as far as fairly inexpensive modifications? ie-what type of exaust & intake are best etc.

Thanks in Advance

Find a good muffler (mainy different opinions out there on which is better) and a K&N FIPK kit. Then you can change your thermostat check out this link from KRC. Lots of good info here.

Reprogramm the computer with something like a Hypertech box. That's the quickest and easiest omprovement you can make. Then, change your rear gears if you can afford it. Those two change will give you a lot of performance for a little bit of money.

I would keep the stock exhaust. Unless you're planning on spending the big bux for full length headers, there's no power to be made and a lots of money to be spent.

Change the thermostat after you've reprogrammed the computer. There's little (if any) power to be made. But the heads will run cooler and that's a good thing. Changing the thermostat on a stock computer can sometimes result in poor performance and worse fuel mileage.

The K&N drop in flat filter makes no power at all. And it probably performs worse (as a filter) than the stock paper one. However, a good cold air induction is worth a little power.
