Subject: Totalled my Dak....... IP: Logged
Message: Among the many other bad things I have had happen in my life recently, this had to happen.....
I loved my truck very much....
haven't got the quote yet from the Insurance agency as to what they are going to give me for it..... I owed $10K...
2002 REG CAB 5SPD 4.7L 3.92/LSD
Atlantic BLUE
with FUll Hotchkis lowering KIT w/ matching Bilstein shocks on it all around...
I had just put Brand New TOYO PROXES S/T tires on it less than 250miles ago....
I hydroplaned or hit a slick spot on the road... and was instantly sideways... I corrected, and it overcorrected the other way and I slid sideways until my Forward movement was stopped by a 1998 Lincoln Town Car that T-BONED my entire passenger side, breaking the rear pass tire/wheel off the axle, busting the bed, the cab, the door, tweaking the frame, etc....
ughhhh...
I am sick...
It was my baby.... my first new vehicle ever...
and I ordered it just like this...
:-(
Ryan
P.S.- I am asking insurance to see how much they will sell it to me for and I may part it out...
Engine was perfect, as was tranny...
Ran ROYAL PURPLE in Engine.... never used a drop every 5K miles..
Had 57,800 miles on it..

Message: Yup, I know the feeling. I blew a tire last December at 75MPH, tagged a retaining barrier and spun it 3 times. Mine was totalled too. Took it in the shorts as I had 140K on my 00 CC 4.7. I got $9500 when all was said and done, but the insurance company had to have a vehicle apprairer go out to evaluate the truck to get that price.
Crappy thing you'll find out it all the goodies you put on the truck doesn't add up to squat to the insurance company. I took off every last part that I put on my truck because they weren't giving me a fair value for them. Cost me $500 off the settlement, but put $2000 worth of parts into my new 03 Dak.
Oh BTW, they wanted $1400 salvage for my truck with all the extra stuff on it. If I had a place to rebuild it and the time I would have kept it.
Good luck with the insurance company,,,

Message: Hey DSW...
That really sucks about your CC, I guess you were ok???
Yep, the lady asked "did you have modification insurance?", to which I answered "no".... argh...
I gotta see what they offer me for it, hopefully, I will hear from them today...
I have receipts for about $1800 worth of mods...
The book values for my truck just really don't value it as high as the true market value does...
It shows around $8500 for wholesale value and about $12000 for retail...
It was in absolutely perfect condition, no scratches, no dents, very sharp and I took good care of it...
The insurance agent asked me the condition and I told her Excellent....
She said she would have to call the appraiser and ask him.... like she didn't believe me...
Anyone who knows me knows how anal I was about my truck...
and I am not going to accept the first offer right away for it either, because mine was so special, I am going to prove to the agent that replacement value is quite high for a truck just like mine... going rate (when you can find them) seems to be about $11500-$13000 for one in the condition and mileage with some mods like mine...
(you just don't see hardly any regular cab 4.7L/ 5 spd with 3.92 LSD trucks)
Thanks again for the support man!!!

Message: Yeah, besides having the universe spinning around me for a couple of seconds, I walked away without a scratch. Can't say the truck faired that good though. She gave her life so I could live another day, (shedding tears) LOL
Thier first offer is going to be laughable, as they are trying to low-ball you to see if you have done your homework. They will only settle with you for "actual cash value", the sale price of vehicles with similar mileage, condition and options your market area, say Detroit or Seattle.
Look at edmunds.com and use thier True Market Value" tool to check out your truck's worth, it's pretty accurate. I tried kbb.com and nada.com but thier prices were realy skewed, Kelly high and NADA low.
I thought I was for a battle, until the insurance adjuster said I have a provision in my insurance which allows for a free evaluation of the truck by a vehicle appraiser. I told them go for it! I knew my truck was in much better condition than other 00 CC's with 140K. Before the appraisal they were at $8,500, after they were at $10,000.
I talked to the appraiser before he took a look at the truck and told him about all the maintenance I had done to the truck and the use of all synthetic fluids, etc, etc. Asked him just to give me a fair value for the truck, nothing more, nothing less. He did a good job.
If you can't get an appraisal, find similar vehicles, same year, model, options and call the dealer to find out what thier price is on the truck. I wouldn't tell them you want to find out thier price for an insurance settlement, I made the mistake of trying to be honest and never got a call back from 2 dealerships. Funny thing about blowing me off, I would never go to those dealers to buy a vehicle now, eh, thier loss.
Anywho, good luck with the settlement.

Message: Forgot this, the tires add value to the truck since they were NEW tires. Don't let them give you that ol' the tires are considered a maintenance item. How many used trucks have new tires on them?
Also, you want to settle for the sales price of similar trucks, not the dealers asking price but the actual price the person paid for the truck. Good luck finding out how much someone paid for a used truck though. You should be able to take the check they give you and buy another truck of similar condition without spending any extra cash.
I had to dump an extra $5000 into my new 03 Dak, but it has 110K less mileage and has 2 extra doors, QC!

Message: Sorry to hear about your truck man. I hope you get a fair price from the insurance company. I bought an 01 RC 4.7 3.92 lsd 5 speed for 10,800 last year so the value for yours should be around that. I read a few dak boards and I think this is the 4th dak to be totaled in about 3 weeks. 2nd RC 4.7. The other had a 6 speed t-56.

Message: No thanks, I walked away without a scratch after totalling my 00 Dak so I got an 03 Dak to replace it. Couldn't imagine what would have happened if I was in one of those tin can import trucks.
However, I would like another Taco Ma,,, extra hot sauce please ;-)

Message: Turbofreak,
You said you were considering parting out your truck. I'm genuinely curious what price you would ask for the engine and transmission.
I have a '00 regular cab with the 3.9L V-6. It's been a good truck and I've kept it in perfect condition. But I HATE the little engine. My intention is to run the wheels off it and perhaps eventually swap the V-6 out for a 4.7. I have thought on several occasions that a 4.7 out of a totalled truck would be a good way to go, especially if the owner took really good care of it as you say you did.
I'm not ready to do this yet; my truck only has 80,000 miles on it now and I assume it should go about another 80,000 before I consider doing anything so major. But I'm already doing research about the characteristics of the 4.7, good aftermarket modifications, the difficulties of this kind of an engine swap, etc.
So what kind of price would you be looking to get out of your engine and transmission?
