Subject: Need Helper Springs IP: Logged
Message: I have a 03 4 door 4.7L and when I haul a 1/2 yard of dirt, the rear springs are on the frame. Its gernerally known that a 1/2 yard of dry loam is under 1000 lbs.
Any ideas for helper springs that won;t make me go broke?

Message: Gravel or dry loam weigh about a ton a yard, so you're looking at about a full 1000 lbs there on your already heavy 4 door model. I went with Roadmaster active suspension for some extra capacity and better handling on mine, haven't heard any negative comments from anyone who's tried that. About 2" lift on my RC.

Message: I've noticed the same on my '00 QC. I'm looking into the air bags with the on board compressor. I think this is the way to go if you don't want your unloaded ride to change. I've had helper springs on other vehicles and in those cases the springs made for a rougher ride. With the airbags you can adjust them to suit the load you're carrying. With the system I'm considering, you can even adjust each side individually. Air ride and Firestone both make the airbags.

Message: I installed coil-over shocks. Seemed to give me a good 2 inches when empty and sure helped on the heavier loads. Nice smooth ride too.

Message: There is a system out there that only stiffens the ride when a load is applied. it claims that it does not affect the ride when unloaded.
