Subject: Tires? IP: Logged
Message:
Does anyone here run winter rims/tires and summer rims/tires? If so do you find this better than an all season setup? I need new tires now and I am considering getting a nice set for spring/summer/fall and then getting some steel rims and snow tires for the winter, is anyone else doing this?

Message: Well not until this year.
I usually run "meat" tires all year round front and back cus mine is only a 2 wheeler, and i get around great.
But in the last month I picked up some new dak. wheels with new tires on them from a friend for cheap$ and they are more summer time type tires so will be putting them on around end of March. Then switching back when winter comes again.

Message: on my r/t, i got 2 pirelli scorpion ice and snow tires 255/65/16 on 16x8 dakota wheels for the back but i left my stock r/t wheels and tires on the front. much much better traction than before huge difference. braking is about the same cause the front wheels are mostly responsible for that. if u want the best snow performance get snow tires on all 4 wheels.

Message: I use 15x7 factory mags for my winter tires. Found I could get them about as cheap as steel rims. Works out well - forces you to rotate your tires twice a year and they wear great.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: on my 02 r/t I run kumho 711 summer tires on my 17" r/t rims. For the winter I run winterforce 235/70 on 15x8 dak/durango rims. The reason I went with 15" rims, is b/c I wanted to keep the overall diameter of 28" so that speedo was correct. I couldn't find a 16" tire that would meet that dia. I guess I'm cheap when it comes to tires though, kumho's are the cheapest high performance tire but I think you get alot for what you pay for. As far as my winter tires I love them. I also keep 350# of weight in the bed. My weights plus these tires are a great combo, I have not gotten stuck once yet this year since i mounted them. Believe it or not I keep up with 4x4's in snow with my r/t
