Message: My Pacesetter headers have leaks. I've been tinkering with the idea of getting them repaired, which would involve welding. The flange is 3/8"; what needs to be done is have a bead of weld run around each pipe exiting the flange. So, around the outside of the flange at the base of each pipe. I figured if a shop were to bolt down the header flange to a flat surface and weld, this should fix my leaks.
Question: Will this cause warping if the header is bolted down tight?
Take a look at this picture. I'm talking about getting welds placed around the base of the header pipe that exits the flange as seen in this picture:
Thanks,
Kris

Message: Is it stainless? If so, it's more likely to warp. Either way, bolting it to a flat surface and preheating it would be your best bet.
On the closeup, the weld looks pretty good. Do you just have a few pin-hole leaks? That wouldn't require a great deal of heat to fix and shouldn't warp even without bolting to a flat surface.

Message: The pictures I posted are from different sites. Not of my actual headers :( I wish they were! And the headers I have are not stainless steel. I think they're 16 gauge steel with a 3/8" flange.
The Pacesetter headers have no exterior welds, but welds that were placed on the inside. While that seems like a good design it's not working for these headers because somebody didn't take enough time to properly weld and/or check for leaks before selling them. The leak is pretty large.
