Message: From all indications, my tranny has been acting a bit funny for the past week. The major problem is in the 2nd-3rd gear shift and what it isn't doing. When pulling away from a stop, under very minimal throttle, the truck shifts just fine from 1st gear to 2nd gear. Once it hits 2nd gear, it seems as if it wants to stay in that gear instead of shifting when it should. When this happens, two things solve the problem. I can either take my foot off the gas and it will upshift or I can give it more throttle which helps it upshift. If I pull away from a stop with greater throttle, it upshifts into each gear perfectly. Even on the highway it drives and shifts fine. The truck has 70,500 miles on it. I bought it with 44K miles so I am hopeful and wishful in thinking that it may just need new tranny fluid as well as a filter. I would think that if something overly serious was happening, I would have had some prior indications. Whether that was a check engine light or some serious slippage, etc.., Anyone else have this problem?

Message: Im having the the same problem as you are and the only fix for it is a rebuild im afraid to say.The local transmission shop informed me that its a problem they see alot becouse of a seal inside the tranny.$1200 to $1500 to fix but mines a 4x4. Dodge knows its a defect but want do anything about it if it goes after your warranty out.

Message: Hello,
I had the same problems. There is a plate on the side of the valve body that has backed off, bent, or screws missing.

Message: What Lonnie is refering to I think is the accumulator plate. That is only on the 45rfe trans. I've heard they have been a problem but never heard what symptoms they cause.
What trans. are we talking here. There has been several different transmissions used since the Dakota came out.
Need more info i.e. year, engine.
