Subject: Rattle/vibration at take off?
IP: Logged

So i have a 97 v8 4x4 auto that i can't seem to figure out what is rattling. It only happens when i take off with a little extra on the gas from a complete stop. It doesn't do it in any other gear, or if i am moving but not quite out of first gear, ONLY when i take off. I first thought it was the fan rubbing the shroud but i checked it and it has plenty of clearence. It annoys the hell out of me and sounds like metal slapping on metal. Anyone got a clue???? I searched the site and got nothing...HELP!?!?!?

If your 97 is like an 04, it could be the emergency brake adjuster bracket. I had the rattle since purchase and finally found it. It is on the outside of the frame rail under the driver’s door. The rubber bushings that kept it off the frame had slipped back.

Can you duplicate the noise while stopped ? Put it in drive, one foot on the brake, and give it some gas. Suspect motor mounts.

i checked the e-brake, no luck there...can't duplicate the sound when stopped...but i think i have it narrowed down. A little while back i had some transfer case work done (broken snap ring and some other little plastic-like piece). It sounds and feels like kind of an almost grinding noise, like trying to get it in a gear, and it sounds like the t-case is where it is coming from. But again, it only happens from a stand-still and getting a little heavy on the gas.
