Message: I also live in a area where it get's over 100
degrees often, the Black magic 150 wasn't enough
cooling for my truck in hot weather, so I've
installed the Black magic 180 xtreme a few weeks
ago and I won't really know how much better it works until the weather heats up again. But I can
already tell that the 180 cools down the 5.2 much
quicker than the 150 did. Will post updates as the
weather heats up. Theres also guys using viper
electric fans out there but I can't tell you how
there working out. -Mike

Message: I have been using the Viper fan in Houston with no problems. My 5.9 never gets over 190 in the hot summer, in traffic, with the AC on. and I run it in the low speed only.

Message: I too hhave a '98 Dak with a 5.2 I put a Black Magic150 on it and here in Michigan I find the a/c not working anymore. It appears the fan does not draw enough air past the heat exchanger and it senses an overheat situation and shuts down, then all I feel is hot air. I thought the Black Magic 150 was THE fan to buy for Dakotas.
As for ENGINE cooling in the summer it appears to work fine. I got the one with t he built in thermostat and it is the way to go.

Message: My 150 also had built in thermostat, theres a wire
goin to the a/c compressor so when you turn on the a/c it turns on the 150 fan .... if that isn't
hooked up or not working the a/c will shut down
and blow hot air. The 150 just isn't quite enough
cooling for 100 degree weather when moving slow or
up long steep grades, the temp. needle will slowly
start creeping past half way and eventully getting
to 3/4 mark. Don't know yet if the 180 will do the job, but looks like Viper fans work great !
