Message: That is pretty damn high. Although I don't own a 2000. I have a 99 with 5.2. Mine is at 500-600 idle. I have never driven a vehicle with idle at 1600. Don't know a fix but that can't be right

Message: My '00 Dak 4.7L idles around 550. With the a/c on it's around 700.
Did you recently reset the PCM? The last time I reset mine the engine ran wierd for a couple of days then ran fine.

Message: You sure its at 1600 RPM ? At the idle speed it would be hard to keep it still at a red light.... you would be fighting the torque converter ....

Message: My 2000 QC 4x4 Dakota also idles high, around 1000 and sometimes 'revs' up higher--all by it's self....yes it is difficult at times while sitting at a red light.Definatly hafta 'sit' on my breaks. You can actually feel the truck jump when it revs.I'm wondering if anyone knows what could cause that??
By the way,it also revs up while just driving down the highway....Like at about 70 mph @ 2200 then rev to about 2600 for no reason.
Any help would be appreciated.

Message: My try replacing the TPS sensor. It's a pretty cheap part, and seems to be the culprit when RPMs start magically changing while driving at a constant speed.
As for the idle, my 2001 QC 4x4 4.7 idles at around 400-500 with the A/C off, and a little above 500 with it on. It's so damn quiet that I often think the engine died. :)

Message: Does anyone know what would cause the RPM
to stay high in idle and while driving? No
jerking like a bad TPS sensor but just
working harder than normal? Just rebuilt
and replaced trans too. Shift positions
don't show up in dash. Jerks into gear.
2001 Dakota 5.7 Don't have the $ for a new
