Message: Have a 93 Dak LE 8Cyl 4x4 263,000 miles
When it is cold out (western NY ) and i turn on the lights gauges all go to the high side and tach needle goes all the way over buzzer starts buzzing. I had dash apart 3 times looking for short never found one. Smack the dash once every thing is fine so for three years i smack the dash once. It's fine in the summer which is a short season around here.
In the next week or so i will be taking 98 Dak 6 cyl. 4x4 with 65,000 miles for a test drive it's sitting at a dealer's waiting for me any info anybody can give me on what to look for or expect from the 98 would be helpful

Message: Your '93 doesn't have a short, it's a bad ground connection.

Message: Rob C is right. A short is totally opposite from a bad connection. Shorted wire is defined as grounding out which usually produces either blown fuses or smoke. Bad connections can be a bear to find sometimes. One thing to check is the bulkhead connector. I had problems with my 93 a couple of times at the bulkhead. Kept corroding and causing bad connections.
