Subject: Y PIPE OR NOT?? IP: Logged
Message: SOME HEADERS COME WITH A Y PIPE AND OTHERS DO NOT. IS A NEW Y PIPE WORTH THE MONEY, OR ARE HEADERS TO THE STOCK Y PIPE AN EFFECTIVE MOD?

Message: The Y pipe on the stock exhaust is about 1" smaller then the aftermarket Y-pipes. A lot of people say that is one of the main restrictions in our exhuast. So for the $ it is worth changing out. There is no need to open your intake up and put on high performance mufflers if you still choke it down in the middle.
Right????

Message: I am interested in installing headers in my 4.7
and I'm wondering who makes the best one and how
much do they cost. And If their any 4.7 owners out
their with headers, please let me know how they
run,(power gains,mpg gains,maintenance,sound ect.)
Thanks.

Message: Brian are you planning on a SC or a turbo? From what I've heard from others on this board the stock exhaust manifold flow just fine for a NA setup.

Message: Mike-
What kind of truck do you have? PPH makes a y pipe with their headers for the 5.9L, and I think JBA makes an aftermarket Y pipe for most other trucks. You can have a shop build you a custom Y pipe for most applications.

Message: I have jba stainless steel headers (shorties) on my truck they sound great and i picked up about 30 horses on the GTECH. I run on 20 inch rims so i may have gotten a little more if i ran on my stock wheels. I think its a good investment especially if you are going to do an intake system or any major mods.

Message: If that major mod includes a turbo don't get headers. The JBA headers will not work with Bernd and Tom's turbo setup they are making.

Message: PPH is peformance proven headers and they are made by Dodge. Check out KRCperformance.com for more info on them.
They basically remove your pre-cats and factory Y pipe. You will also need an 02 simm box. They are about the only full length headers that will work on the R/T.
If you don't want to remove those items then just get yourself a set of shorties.

Message: It tricks your computer into thinking the cat is there and working. Plugs into your O2 sensors.
Allows you to remove the cats and not have a check engine light or surging idle.
Check out speedtweaks.net for more info on it.
