 Subject: tranny problem with my dakota I think

well I took the dakota out on a drive today first long drive since I have gotten it. and the tranny seems to be "slipping" when I push the gas it takes a few seconds to start accel. and then does the same going into 2nd other than that is runs great. What could cause this and what are my options? also what tranny do I have? its a '91 clubcab with the 318 2wd. thanks for all your help? Is there a HD version I could get instead? I am gonna be towing with this truck thanks.

I have the same truck but its a 94 and does the same thing, works great if you dont floor it .
