Subject: won't start and has no bus code
IP: Logged

Message:
03 Dakota V-8, stalled at 23k miles and wouldn't start, wouldn't even turn over. Had "no bus" where odometer usually is and no gear selector light around gear. Started when tow truck arrived. Drove to dealer, couldn't find a code/problem. Did it again at 37k...wouldn't start when I got off work, same no bus code and nothing when i turned key...all other electrical items (radio, lights, etc OK). Towed to dealer, started right up several hours later; couldn't diagnose or find problem. Did it again this morning. Called dealer he said jump it...it started. He said check battery...did...battery and charging system fine. Can anyone help?

I'd begin by checking main grounds from the
battery or if the battery is a few years old,
replace it.

Try this. Next time it won't even turn over and
all your lights, radio etc. are ok, leave those
items turned on and have someone watch the
headlights while you try and start the truck.
If the lights dim way down or go off, you either
have a main ground problem or the battery is
giving you fits. You could have a bad connection
within the battery or even connections on the
battery posts are not as good as they look.

It really sounds like a simple problem, Kal.

Let us know what you find out.

Have you tried to pull any codes yourself? Turn ignition on, off, on, off, on without starting and the PCM should display any codes in your odometer LEDs. The closest thing to "No Bus" is a P1694(M) No BUS CCD Messages Received from ECM
Meaning: Bus communication failure to PCM
