Message: Anyone with a 02 4.7 Dak have the following problem shifting?
from 2 to 3rd it slams into gear. if i do not put the peddle to the floor. Taking it easy, and the normal acceleration of in town driving is when it happens.
See Ya!

Message: Don't feel too bad. My 2000 with a 4.7 does the same thing. I've had the transmission/ computer updates all applied but still the same problem. If your just accelerating slowly you get that slam from 2 to 3
The only time it shifts really nice is when you drive it like you stole it :)
Cheers!

Message: The only time I get hard shifts out of mine is around 2/3 to 3/4 throttle. If I'm just cruising, hurrying a little, or foot to the floor, it shifts absolutely smooth. It only shifts hard in that area of "I want to move considerably faster than normal" to "I'd be at full throttle but I'd run over the blue-hair from Wisconsin who can't seem to locate her gas pedal."
Make sense?

Message: You guys have the computerized automatic tranny right. Well what it does is it remembers your last 10 shift points for optimum performance. So if you drive it hard all day and then when you try to drive soft it is still going to shift hard and fast and it has a tendency to shear the teeth on the tranny so be carefull. This was told to me by my uncle who ownes a tranny shop. Just take it easy and complain to dodge until they do a recall.

Message: Mine did the same thing. Especially in winter. I checked my tranny fluid and it was a little low when "up to temp" (15 min of driving). I added just a little fluid and the problem happens far and few between.
I think that it is a two fold problem. I have the tranny cooler and i doubt if the fluid ever gets hot enough to actually register full! I don't tow anything and run quite a bit of highway.
Second is the computer doesn't seem to recongnize that I let off of the throttle until the tranny is mid shift. The tranny throws the gear hard like i'm on the throttle but the engine is spooling down which in turn makes the tranny bump.
Either way, the number is incidents that I have had is much less than it used to be. Just be careful and don't overfill the tranny. that would create more problems.
Sorry for the long post!

Message: I have an 02 Quad Cab 4.7 auto. it shifts very smooth at all speeds. Some times if I'm rolling slow 15-30 MPH and stomp on it seems to down shift and take some time to rev. before it goes.
