Message: I was thinking K&R Filter, Exaust, and Tanneau. Will this be enough? Bigger tires HELPING mileage? I have the 4.7 so what is this about an electric fan and what is a throttle body spacer? I'm somewhat automotively retarted apparently.

5.2V8 question is do they all get only 7-6 mpg and why? my Jeep got 12 around town and 16 on the highway..since we are planning on towing a tt crosscountry with it (I know..that's insane) with this kind of mileage it may be cheaper to fly!

Message: After putting in a black magic 150 electric fan, Tonnaeu cover, K&N FIPK I get 20 mpg on the highway. Noticed this when I went to NY to FL & back. Also used 87 octane from exxon/mobil before they starting using alcahol in the gas. This is on a 99 5.2L CC.
I also unplug my AC since it will kick in whenever the ventilation controls are on. I do plug it back in during the summer.
I use stock tires with air pressure @ 35 psi. I would imagine with bigger tires comes more rolling resistance & with it, a slight decrease in MPG.

Message: *K&N,
the AC cuts on just to turn the vent on? I heard that before on here but I hadn't noticed it. Yeah I heard something about taller tires saving gas from less rotation or something, on these forums. I also hear about worse mileage too with them. It seems everybody's results vary, except for the tanneau cover for the HWY miles.

Message: Yeah really, thats what I'm screamin. I kinda assumed that when I was thinking about how odd it was that the vent's off switch is on the blower selecter, but then I after reading on here I assumed that it was because turning the blowers on was indeed cutting the climate system on, also which is why I assumed there was no AC power switch. So what I do is leave it off unless the windows are foggy or frosted, or if its really cold. Thats all you can do aside from unplugging it. But the good part is that heat is on tap VERY quickly so you won't have to spend hardly any time warming it up on those frosty mornings when you're in a rush.

Message: It's a popular feature on late model cars. Just dis-connect the A/C compressor.
Follow the wire back 6" to 12" & unplug it.
Eventually, I'll wire up a switch in the cab so I can do this a lot easier.

Message: I have the post behind you. I have not done anything but the cat back, yet. The tb spacer is supposed to optimize the way the fuel air mixture is burned. unsure of hp and mpg gains, but if it is close to 10% mpg and at least 5 hp it is worth it. I found some for less than 100 bucks and can install inabout an hour or so. They may be smog legal to. I do not know about every where else, but that is important in so cal. I average about 14 or so mpg combined. looking for the best coldair mod soon. Good luck.

Message: The a/c is used to remove moisture from the air and help windows from fogging up. Anytime you open any of the upper vents it will kick the a/c on and off automaticaly. I do like Tony and disconnect the compressor wire goin to the fan in
the winter and reconnect it in the summer. My electric fan rarely kicks on in the winter, only
if your not moving. -Mike

Message: is that a dakota or durango. My 4.7 dak is terrible at 14.5 best comined hwy an city. granny or slam it, pass everthing bt the gas station. what a crock. I would not mind if they were a little more honest with their est. of mpg. I still would have bought it because it is the best looking truck out there. I was thinking about the colorado but I will let some other dumb ass tell chevy what to make better in the next year model.

Message: Well on my '01 Dak, Auto w/OD, 4.7L EXT Cab, 235-75-15 Tires, 3:92 rear end, Tonneau Cover, 70/30 Hwy/City, I use Cruise Control on the hwy, and I average 540KM's to a 75L Tank. (I'm Canadian). I think thats pretty good considering my 97 CHerokee with the 4.0L and 30" tires gets about the same...and my Dak is a V8
