Subject: Volt meter pegged
IP: Logged

Message:
The strangest thing happened this morning.... I was at the stoplight when the Check Guages light came on. I noticed that my volt meter was completely pegged. It stayed like that until I left the light and it slowly returned to normal. At lunch, I watched it, but it never did it again. Anyone know what might have caused this???

sounds pretty funky... could be the gauge is messed up, or it could be something wrong with the charging system.

My guess would be something to do with the gauge, but the best way to tell is plug an external volt meter into the cigarette ligher and see if the voltage is within specs the next time the gauge pegs...

could have been the voltage regulator got stuck for a second. if it happens again you might want to pull that alt and have it checked out.

JR's right man.
2003 and 2004 don't have voltage regulators you can point to.
The PCM controls alternator output.
