Thought this could be a little information for others and guide me in the right direction. I have a book explaining how the aux electric fan works.

The fan will run whenever a/c compressor clutch is engaged. (probably already knew that)
When a/c compress. clutch is disengaged the fan will run above if going 40mph and above 230F and stop at 220F
Below 40mph it will kick on at 210F and shut off at 200F
Fan will also not run during engine cranking.

Alright now that I got that out of the way, do I really need a new t-stat to keep the same temperatures? I will probably end up getting a better t-stat soon anyways, and if I do whats a good brand. Last question, can you get a t-stat that will kick the fan on lower then 180?

I`d like to see that fan tutorial cleaned up a little. The t-stat only controls coolant temp. The truck won`t know you have a 180 in there and still will run the fan based on a 195 t-stat application. Graphite has a fix for this, search his posts. Also search "thermostatic switch".

yea I know the t-stat only monitors the coolant temp , and pcm controls fan based on the t-stat reading. Didn't think about that... I'll check up on the thermostatic switch in the morning. thanks

I did a google search on the wiring and did not come with satisfactory results....

How do you wire in the switch?....some said the green wire, is this on all models?

Will this mess with the PCM?

I have a 2001 R/T CC

I ran mine from an always hot terminal from the PDC to the green hot wire going to the fan with a 30 amp in-line fuse. This way the computer will still turn the fan on at 220 if the switch fails and when the ac/defrost is turned on. The fan will run with the motor off but I like the idea of negating the heat soak. It`s a flex-a-lite thermostatic switch with the bulb jammed in the radiator by the upper hose and the adj. switch mounted on the side of the plastic battery case. Been in for two years with no PCM problems. I did have to replace the switch once. The instructions call for it being wired in-line with the ground wire but that would cut it off from being controlled by the the PCM. When it failed a tech at flex-a-lite said it would last longer wired on the negative side. I don`t know why that would make a difference, didn`t bother asking.

alright I order the flex-a-lite switch from the summit
racing website for about 30 bucks, does the kit tell you
to hook it up so the pcm can still control it or does it
completely cut off the pcm? I would want it so the pcm
can still control it incase the switch fails.

I don't use no stinkin controller. Just a 180 t-stat. Got rid of my clutch/fan YEARS ago. Always runs cool. 4.7 5speed-the real one-manual.
