Just had A 400$ tune up done on my 99 dakota 318 magnum. When starting cold, pressure runs around 70 as it warms up pressure drops to around 30. When it's fully warmed up and I stop, pressure instantly drop from 30 to 0. Goes back up to 30 when I give A little gas or put in Neutral. Rpm's 600 in drive and 650 in neutral. Any suggestions?

first and foremost, put a mechanical gage in there and make sure that oil press drop is actually dropping to 0. i think min. press. @ idle and warm for these 318's is about 6 psi. these factory gages are not accurate enough. they are only marginally better than an idiot light. after you try the mechanical gage, post back with the results.

What kinda oil filter ? what oil are you running ?
Did it do it before the tune-up ? How many miles ?
What were your readings before the tune-up ?

I think you are saying that you only have the factory gauge and have NOT had it checked with a manual pressure gauge. If so, have it checked as daddio said. If it confirms the dash gauge readings, then you have a real oil pressure problem and will require some mechanical repairs. If it conflicts, replace the oil pressure sending unit.

So, what did the tune-up consist of ? somehow i'm
thinking the tune-up caused the problem ? What
was the oil pressure reading before ?

It's more than likely a bad sending unit for your
oil press. guage or bad connection but could be
other things like a obstructed oil pick-up screen
in your pan, or maybe your filter bypass is sticking or hanging up. -Mike

I have a 97 Dodge Dakota. Same problems as everyone else. We had the dashboard replaced, the sensors replaced. Had a seperate oil gauge put on. still the same problems. What is wrong with this truck? Any ideas on how to get Dodge to take care of it.

DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING
DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING—ENGINE OIL
PRESSURE
(1) Remove oil pressure sending unit (Fig. 95)and
install gauge assembly C-3292.
(2) Run engine until thermostat opens.
(3) Oil Pressure:
² Curb Idle—25 Kpa (4 psi) minimum
² 3000 rpm—170 - 550 KPa (25 - 80 psi)
(4) If oil pressure is 0 at idle, shut off engine.
Check for a clogged oil pick-up screen or a pressure
relief valve stuck open.
