Subject: Fel-Pro Plenum gasket IP: Logged
Message: Are the Fel-Pro plenum gasket good? I have to change mine at some point as I have a considerable amount of vacume coming from my valve cover breathers and oiley soot inside my intake.
I was going to go to Auto-Zone or Pep Boys for the parts are they OK?
Do I need to replace the bolts and what size are they (length, diameter and thread)? IE(1"x 1/4-20)

Message: Yes! Felpro (i feel) are the best! I have always used felpro they are very very good gaskets. A bit pricy, but worth it!! It doesn't matter where you pick them up at though. Not sure on the bolts or size.

Message: The new factory gasket seems to be much better. It's made of steel. The screws are as cheap from the dealer as any I've seen. The stock screw are "torque to yield" and should not be reused although I have done it.

Message: The correct torque stretches the bolt. You reuse them at your own risk. I've easily broken more than one.
If you don't torque them correctly you run the risk of premature gasket failure.
If you want, you can eliminate the gasket altogether and apply a bead of "The Right Stuff." That virtually eliminates and chance of leakage and you don't have to worry about the gasket ever giving out.
