Subject: Starving for fuel???? IP: Logged
Message: Need your help here folks....
(I must say that this is a very information sites, I've looked in all of the archives but could not locate any posts that address this issue.)
Truck will turn over, but will not start. Originally, we thought it was out of gas. I have spark and I have fuel b/c you can smell it flooding after a while of turning it over.
Once it starts, and you give it gas, its sputers, clunks and trys to shut back off.
When at idle, I push the throttle to the floor quickly, reving between 1-2 RPM's and then its sputers and shuts off.
No codes. Can you give me any suggestions to see if I am getting the right amount of fuel pressure?
Thanks!

Message: Have you tried the "tap" test on the PCM? Tap or bump the PCM with a rubber mallet or something similar while starting the engine. If it starts and runs ok...may be a PCM failure. BUT, sounds more like something affecting crank or cam signal to PCM.

Message: Update ... My truck started after a couple of days sitting. I flooded it a time or two and again after walking away befuddled - it finally turned over. Jason, thanks for your reply. Can anyone answer if the automatic shutdown relay triggers if the truck is flooded and if you are over cranking the amps? Just a thought to try and figure out what happened when it would not start and now no problems? I have driven my truck all week w/o issues. Many thanks to your site and the archives are very helpful.

Message: Why do you think it might be the ASR? You said it cranks over just fine but, doesn't fire, right? You've probably got a bad CPS-crank position sensor, when those things start going bad, they do flaky things like this. The next time it won't start, reseat the connector on your CPS and try to start it, if it starts, get a new CPS. Good luck!
