Just wondering how many of you have an older V8 with an oil consumption problem and what you've done or are going to do about it? I myself own a '91 318 that's burning a couple quarts a month. So far I've had the valve seals done @ $195.00, but that didn't solve a thing so this summer I'm getting a ring job done on it. I was quoted $1000.00 parts and labor for the work. The ring kit alone costs $375.00, the rest is labor.
Steph

My 318 is pre-magnum with a one piece intake manifold so it doesn't apply to me, but thanks anyway.

Hey Teamfast. I did an oil change three weeks ago and added a $30.00 slick 50 engine treatment because I too thought it could be stuck control rings but it didn't do any good. That's why I'm gonna bite the bullet and get the overhaul done.
Steph.

Slick 50 will make your engine burn more oil,its total crap, ring job for a grand is alot and alot of times does not fix the prob.If your cylinders are out of round and have to much taper it will be smoking again real soon, get a proper engine rebuild i:e bore the block and oversize pistons or have you priced a short block? $375 just for rings and gaskets sounds way high to me
