seems like my oil pressure drops to zero after braking or letting my truck idle at a light. It only drops for a second and then returns.

I used to run 40psi at idle and about 50 or 55 during reg driving. Now since it has been dropping, it runs about 35 at idle and maybe 40 during reg driving.

oil pump? pick up screen? clogged pcv? clogged oil filter? Bad sensor?

I am running mobile 1 10w30 full syn

thanks for helping with all my 99 5.2Ls probs

I had the exact same problem...Mine happens because of build up. All I do is get the engine flushed when I change the oil and the problem goes away. It's also good to check your oil pump as that can cause that too.

also I would check your oil pressure sensor. I know on my 94 cougar the sensor unit was faulty. it would drop to 0 for a few seconds. does it fluxuate at times when driving?

the only fluxuation is when i come to a stop, or let off the throttle for a short period of time. Then it drops right to zero. wait a coupel seconds or rev it, and it returns to right under 40.

I would replace the sensor. would be the cheapest fix. right?. and if that dont fix it then it might be a cloged filter so something as the others stated. I would try that next before oil pump. hope this helps.

I would have a manual oil pressure gauge put on it to verify actual pressure readings. Delaying repairs that are needed to internal engine components can only increase the expense. If your readings are normal, then you can rest easy until you replace the oil pressure sending unit.

Why is it that some people feel the need to post the same paroblems over and over again when they get perfectly good advice in response to their first post? You should try out what was recomended to you first then if that doesn't work repost your problem stating that you've tried what was recomended. At the same time if something that was recomended works, then you should post it so you might be able to help others with a similar problem. That's the great thing about these types of message boards.

I suggested hooking up a mechanical OP gauge before you do anything else. It sounds that you didn't do that. Others suggested oil pump, pick up screen, clogged pcv, clogged oil filter or Bad sensor. It seems that you didn't try any of that either. Try some of what is suggested first. If you're not capable then take it to a garage that is and suggest the suggestions.

I have the same Oil problems I've all over the net on a 99 Dakota with 25kmi. This is a show truck that has never went over 2000 miles on a single oil change, NEVER. Yes I did the gauge thingie, sending unit, PVC valve, oil pump, different filters, different oils, stabilizer, ABSOLUTELY no sludge in THIS engine. IT simply seems there is a deaper problem here that no one has found the cure for. Lets see you smart guys figure out the root cause, YOU SEE we've changed the little small stuff and many have done the larger stuff and continue to see the same problems!!! A engine should never see the amount of fluctation these late 90's Dodge engines see. Go ahead, lets hear a real cure and post it............ We are waiting, LETS SEE YOU SHINE.........
