Subject: 318 True Dual Exhaust IP: Logged
Message: I know there are lots of posts about exhaust already on here but I can't seem to find one to answer my question. I am considering going with true duals and no mufflers on my '98 318 RC and I stopped by my local exhaust shop to ask their opinion. They suggested to go with a dual in/ Dual out high flow cat and 2" pipes all the way out the back. I would like some of your opinions on the 2" pipes. Sounds kinda small to me, I was thinking at least 2 1/4" pipes but the owner of the exhaust shop seems to think that would be too little back pressure. Also planning on putting headers on in the near future but as of now it's just got stock manifolds.

Message: CraiginTenn,
I have a 97' 318 with 2 1/2 pipes and it sounds ok, and the torque is still there but, if you are going for a more throaty sound I would go with the 2" i think the 2 1/2's that I have make it a little louder deffinately but, if you like that throaty, poppy, sound I would stick with the 2's either way i still have the power and the torque with 2 1/2's you just have to decide what you want it to sound like.

Message: Dahemikota has true duals on his 5.2L. Got pipes coming out each side and exit in front of the rear tires. They are 2 1/2" pipes. The thing kicks butt.

Message: Be very careful not to put the same exhaust on a 4.7 vs a 5.2/5.9 and then expect similar sound. There are tremendous differences. I have a 5.2 with factory cat, exhaust Y is about 10-12 inches behind cat. The sound is great, which is all I was looking for at the time. A 4.7 done the same way sounds awful, in my opinion.
