Is there any way to check an oil pump to see if it is still good?

Try this.
1. Remove the oil filter.
2. Start the engine.
3. Check for oil everywhere.

That's how I would do it.

The safest way is to hook up a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Obviously if your engine hasn't locked up then the pump is at least circulating oil. If it wasn't pumping anything it would take only a few minutes to destroy your engine. just ask some of the 4.7L owners that have had theirs fail on the road. Usually when the pump goes bad you either have a major mechanical failure in the pump gears, pump body or the pressure spring simply breaks causing low oil pressure. Most commonly though is a clogged pick up spring whcih will starve the pump.
