my driver side carpet of my 2000 4.7 was really wet after some recent rain. I let it air out for a day but still wet. Pulled up the carpet and there was a giant puddle. i pulled the carpet out let it dry out and was just going to put it back in tomorrow. Well it rained today and the whole driver side floor is a puddle again. I have no idea how the water is getting in there. Has anyone else had this problem? it's like it's coming in from the vents on the hood.down through something. do i take it to the dealer or what? HELP!!!

Usually this issues is related to the passenger side....next time it rains sit in your truck and look to see how the water is getting in....thats the only way you will know...

If you do a search on this website you'll see that lots of people have reported this problem. It's usually on the passenger's side, caused by a faulty weld under a body panel near the top of the fender by the windshield. You're not the first guy to start a thread on this.

Hi, I have a 2000 4.7 and haven't had this problem, but my friend has the problem with his Dak. Apparently some Dakotas had a faulty gasket around either the wiper motor or wiper transmission, and this allowed water to enter at the top of the firewall and run down under the carpet. He got a recall notice from Dodge on his due to the possibility of electrical shorting.

Hope it helps,
Lance

My 2004 dak has a big puddle on the driver side. I took to the
dealer and they said it was the Amp Power wire AKA they have
no idea what the problem is they just want to blame it on me so
they dont have to pay for it. I siliconed all around the wire and it
still leaks. The water comes from above where the wires come
through the firewall. I need help. Oh they wanted $5000 to fix it

I had a similar problem with my 94 Dak., the dealer had it for 3 days before they found the problem. They finally did a smoke test, some kind of smoke generator was placed inside the cab and all windows and vents were closed. When the smoke generator filled up the cab they found the seal on top of the cab, where the metal panels fit togeather, was leaking. They pulled the carpet and cleaned it for free and all labor to repair was also free, the truck was out of warranty but they said it was such a strange problem that the factory said to just fix it! That was Fullerton Dodge in Ca. . No problems since.

My 2000 club cab has leaked in both the drivers and passenger side floorboard for the last 4 years. At first I thought it was the Evaporator core drain and siliconed the recommended black rubber 90* hose to prevent supposed drainage water from blowing back into the hole in the firewall around the drain - STILL LEAKS!

I water hose checked the whole windshield and door seals and figured the water was coming in through the areas at the top outer corners of the windshield where I could see down the inner edge of the windshield. I figured it was running down that area and in through a bad seal as so many people were saying "there’s a badly sealed firewall seam", "water is coming in through a clip that the windshield sits on", it’s a badly sealed windshield and it needs to be removed, resealed and reset in place, and so on. I have just about gone overkill on sealing all of those areas - STILL LEAKS!

I have recently noticed that when I back up out of the driveway (my driveway goes up a bit to meet the road), I notice a lot of water flowing "forward" from the back of my truck also. I truly believe that the seam that runs along the top sides (above my club cab windows) or the rear window/rear taillight is now an additional leak. Once these "days of flirting with heat stroke while just checking the mail” are over and it kind of cools down, I plan to gut my truck and water check the whole cab and "WELD", JB Weld, Expandable Foam, stuff with newspaper & mud, or whatever I need to do to any seams or areas that water is getting through. I am tired of this. My carpet was so waterlogged and starting to stink that I had to throw it out and I old threw towels in the floorboards to soak it all up on a regular basis.

I like my Dakota, no doubt about that but this water issue is ridiculous, I am ready to drill several drain holes in the middle of each floorboard for the water to drain out (in fact I think I read somewhere on here that someone actually did). My wife’s 2003 Durango leaks like crazy also and the dealership claims that no one has ever reported any problems. We all know that’s bull though.

I had the same problem on the driver's side of my '03 QC and it turned out to be the door seal. I didn't believe the service dept at first and thought they when they were taking a shot in the dark as usual. It's been dry ever since.

had the same prob with my 03 DAK QC. when it rained hard it would leak around the driver side door where the door begins to bend alond the winshield. took it in. they adjusted the doors. also passenger did it too. so they adjusted both. was told if it does it again to bring it back in and they will replace the door seals. well the passenger quit leaking but the drivers stilled leaked a lil. so took it back in and they replaced it for free. I fig they would give me the run around of could not duplicate or some bull like that.

now to get them to fix my surging when I let the brake off. they say they cant duplicate it. but it does it all the time. I think they know whats wrong and would cost alot to fix. I took it to another place that sells dodges but is primarly a GM dealership. I took it over there as the closet dodge dealership is 40 miles away. they service manager felt it right away and never left the parking lot. now he asked a service tech what causes that and he said one of the cylinders compression isnt the same as the others so it kinds idles rough. he said nothing to really do with it and not to worry unless it throws a code, or gets worse. now I am making anr appointment with the dodge place in harrisonburg. and take the guy for a test drive and see what they say. I spent 23 thousand on this truck and dont pay for poor workmanship. if they say its the same thing I am calling DC coustomer service and filing a complaint with the supposed 5 star dealership that said they could not duplicate.

sorry for the thread highjacking

I went back to the dealer and they called in a specialist and he
found that a seam was open on my 2004. He patched it up and
it doesn't leak anymore.
