Subject: Magunm top end on a TBI? IP: Logged
Message: Hi all. I'm working on a '98 Dakota with a blown 318, and I was wondering if I could swap the 318 heads, intake, and other fuel injection related parts onto an early 90's TBI 360? I found a great deal on a low mileage motor and was just wondering if I could use it.
Thanks,
Tony

Message: There was a article a few months back in Mopar Muscle Magazine that outlined putting magnum heads on a older "non-magnum" block. As I recall it was a straight bolt (with the right parts). The intake and top end should bolt right on. The only place you might have trouble is with the crank position sensor(not sure there is a place for it on the older block). So I guess my answer is they will bolt together but hooking up all the electronics could be tricky.

Message: The magnum heads use a different oiling system - I believe you'll need to use different lifters, maybe more differences.

Message: Thanks Guys!
I did a little more searching after I posted this and found a list of the parts necessary to make the heads work, but like Mike S, I can't help but wonder about the crank position sensor.
Thanks again,
Tony

Message: Don't put the 318 flexplate on a 360.
The 360 is externally balanced and requires a flexplate for a 360

Message: magnum engines have differen't motor mounts than tha LA series motors the magnum has both sets of mounts but the LA doesn't have the magnum mounts the magnum heads oil through the pushrods. But mopar mucsle did do a magnum head swap.
