Message: That is what I was thinking but he has not responded back with whether or not the speedo is working properly. It is a good start considering the part is like $46 from Dodge. It takes about 5 minutes to replace yourself (so don't pay Dodge to do it).

Message: it's called the rear axle speed sensor. You can replace it yourself, cheaper & not long to do.
Your abs/brake system won't work properly if you don't fix it.

Message: It is a very easy fix. jack the rear end up of the truck. crowl under with some tools and the new Mopar speed sensor for the differential. Tell the service guys to squize to di-electrode grease on it for you. Spend about 15 minutes installing the new part and your done. VERY simple. Once you get the part, and crawl under the diff. you will notice right where it goes.

Message: I have a similar problem with my 95 dakota, both the ABS and Brake light come on. My brake fluid level is good, both front disk and the rear drum brakes were just replaced in July, and my speedometer works just fine. The brakes also seem to be working. Since everything seems to be working I have not taken my truck to a repair shop.
Would replacing the speed sensor solve my problem? or do i need to do something else?

Message: Try to do a search on the topic. You will find a lot of people with the abs/brake light on. I am sure there is mention about your speedo still working. I would say if you have brakes but that light is on..it is the sensor in the rear diff. The speedo and abs/brake run along the same sensor (from what I have read on this sight.)It is a cheap part and very easy to fix. If you have the $50 or less to buy this part it may be best for you to try this. I am sure that if you take it down to a mechanic to diagnos it, it will cost more than that.

Message: I am having the same problem. I went online to see if I could find the part, but no one seems to carry it. Any idea of where I could get this part? Got a part #?
I have a 2000 Dakota, V6, 2-wheel drive.
Thanks!

Message: Hi linda
You are talking the lights out back or the brake
light in the dash?
If it's the brake lights/tail light look under the
dash right above the brake ped.
There is a switch there that activates the lights
when the the ped. is pressed. Make sure it's
plugged in and hasn't move. If not you'll have to
replace it.
Dash light, Check fluid if it's good check for
codes.

My abs and brake light are on even after I changed the sensor in the diff and the speed sensor in the tranny
and still don't have cruise and O/D.
