Message: The 'ECM' must know.
The VIN is programmed into it. If you change the ECU, you gotta take it to a DRB III tool and have the VIN entered into it. This lets the ECU know your vehicle configuration and equipment.

Message: I don't think RC or CC would matter, maybe if different # of doors ? Look for one with same drivetrain and emissions package, and it probably needs to be the same year. If donor or receiver has factory security system, I've heard that can cause a problem; but I forget way causes the problem (donor or receiver). Now commonly called a PCM (power control module), it may be fine with wrong vin # - my truck ran fine on a boneyard PCM with different vin #. You'll likely find most combinations available used at car-part.com for under $100.

Message: Nope...Won't work. I bought an ECM with EXACT same part # from a truck EXACTLY like mine, right down to the same COLOR, and it don't work, because the VIN is different. Stealership says they can't re-flash with new VIN, either...

Message: Seany B what they told you is a crock of BS you can change the VIN in the controller because you flash update them by vechicle equipment in chryslers systems. let me explain when you hook up to the dealership MDS the system pulls the VIN AND REVISION LEVEL from each controller in the vechicle for you to save time. what it will do is tell you of a vin mismatch and stop you from reflashing the controller with the incorrect vin number but you can also pull updates by equipment in the vechicle and store them in the handheld scanner so you can reflash multiple cars without having to hookup each one to the MDS. For example say you had 20 cars for the same flash update recall for a trans controller you can load the scanner up once and go out in the lot and go from one car to the next without bringing each one inside the VIN isnt needed it is only used to keep you from reflashing the controller with the wrong software. The VIN is definitely changeable

Message: Hey, Partmanager,
Where, as in shat city or state, do you work? Is it a dodge dealership?
You definitrly seem to know what you're talking about on your posts, I was just curious.
IN fact, are you Bernd Ratch, who now works at a dealership somewhere? I remember you once posted that there was no 'death flash' for the 4.7
