Message: Hi guys,
My question pertains to a 92, 5.9L 4wd automatic Dakota. A friend has a trans fluid leak coming from between the tranny and transfer case. Can the transfer case be unbolted from the transmission without removing/disassembling the entire trans or is this one unit? Any special tricks or tips? Any help is appreciated.

Message: Shouldn't be a problem to take the transfer case off. You need to remove the front and rear driveshafts first (make sure you mark the yokes and the differentail to you can get them back on the same way). After that the transfer case just unbolts and slides off the back of the tranny. There is most likely a pressed seal in between there that is leaking, should be easy to pop the old one out and push in a new one. Good Luck.
