Subject: Overhead Console IP: Logged
Message: I was wondering if anyone out there knew if the 04 CC SLT is prewired for the overhead console with trip computer?? My truck currently only has courtesy lights on the over head console. I would like to add the trip computer if the truck is prewired for it. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. THANX

Message: One way to check would be to take it down and look inside, but my guess is that you are not pre-wired for it if your truck didn't come with it from the factory. I'll check the schematics when I get home tonight to verify.

Message: Wolfman,
I installed a o/h puter on my 01 dak, had 'bout everything except that. I didn't think I wanted it when I ordered my truck with my options, all at invoice price. Then I found one on this site for $80 shipped, less than the invoice price I sould have paid.
Basically, all the puter data is carried by one wire-the PCI bus. It can be found easiest, by splicing a wire down the A pillar, to the wire on the data communications port-the OBD2 port.
Do a search, you'll find all the answers on your 04.
It's funny that people always get a response from the dealer like-3-800 dollars. Cost me nothing, i hade a few 69cent splicers.

Message: Thanx Tex,
I have been trying to do several different searches, but all I get is a blank white screen.
Sounds as if it is doable w/o too much hassle.

Message: Wording from the 2004 Service Manual CD.
*
Remove the phillips screw that secures the front of the overhead console to the front of the overhead console bracket.
(2) Insert the fingertips of both hands between the headliner and the sides of the overhead console housing in the area of the storage bin.
(3) Pull downward on the sides of the overhead console housing firmly and evenly to disengage the two snap clips that secure the rear of the unit from their receptacles in the overhead console bracket.
(4) Lower the overhead console from the headliner far enough to access the wire harness connector.
*
Now that you can see the wire harness connector, take a close look at it.
If it's got a 12-wire connector, you're in luck.
If the connector only has 3 wires, it is not pre-wired for the EVIC, and you'll have to make up your own wire harness for it.
Go to: http://www.wjjeeps.com/evic.htm#TEST
Start reading this page and some of the links. Excellent information for just the sort of thing you want to do, but keep in mind this is a Jeep Grand Cherokee (WJ) site, so the part numbers do not apply to the exact same thing in a Dodge.
