My 99 Dakota has an intermittent problem. When very cold or very hot (still within normal engine temperatures) the truck will surge. It'll occur when first starting out. Give it a little gas and it surges forward; when you let up on the pedal, it'll slow down very quickly. The end result is a truck surging that is almost impossible to control. The same thing will happen when driving at any speed. The only way to control it is to put it in cruise control. It'll run perfectly then. Computer?
