Talked with the rep's at Chrysler today. Told them that when I bought my 99 R/T they did the State inspection on it and found the upper ball joints were bad. Chrysler told me that a recall on the 99's will be coming soon.

How do you go about learning of a recall when you bought a used truck? I have a 1999 also.

Call DC Customer Service and make sure they have current ownership information so you will get the mailings. While you are on the phone with them, they can tell you if any outstanding recalls exist for your vehicle. Have your VIN handy when calling.

You can also run your VIN on the Dodge website (last eight characters required). I also did this for a Ford, through Ford's website (the entire VIN was required). The dealer pulled the CARFAX for my Dakota before I purchased it, however, Dodge didn't report any recalls to CARFAX...I found out after I purchased the truck that I had an outstanding recall.

Dodge, or any carmaker, has no obligation to report anything to CARFAX. It is the responsibilty of CARFAX to make certain that the information they provide is complete and accurate or to not portray it as such.

To make a story really short, i have a 99 dakota 4x4 and the dealership mentions within the next 6 months there Chrysler should come out with a recal for the 98-99 he said (haha what about 97 daks)... I mentioned it when my mom was getting her ball joints replaced on her 2003 durango... I spent 1k for them damn balljoints on my dak again for all 4, and he said to bring the recept in when the recall occurs and theyll repay all 1k back to me.. I sure hope this is true

CJ-

Hopefully everything works out for your '99. Does the '03 Durango still experience the "worn ball joint symptom sound?" I had the recall done on my '02, and it seems like they make more noise now, than before. ???

The D47 recall ONLY applies to the 2000-2003 Dodge Dakota and Durango. I work at for a Chrysler dealer and they will NOT replace ball joints on any vehicles that do not apply. I tried with my 1998 Durango, which I replaced a year ago and they are already halfway worn out, and even called chrysler about it and they wont budge.
