well, this morning, I notice a fault code P0455 in my 00 dak 4.7. I checked severeal websites and they all point to a massive EVAP leak. could this be related to a loose gas cap?

It could be your gas cap, there was a TSB on earlier Dakotas, the fix included an upgraded gas cap with double gaskets. Shake your gas cap, if it rattles you need a new one. The hoses that Dodge uses are notorious for splitting and cracking you might want to check those as well. Do a search, plenty of helpful info here.

Thank you for the info. I already checked the gas cap and it seems to be fine:-( So now I will have to start looking into the EVAP System$$.
