Subject: ELECTRICAL PROBS...HELP!!!!! IP: Logged
Message: So, my folks bought this spiffy new Dodge Dakota '03 Quad Cab 4x4 4.7L. Last night it got down to like 25* outside...but it was pretty dry. This morning, start up the truck...no interior lights, no dash lights, no backup lights, no parking lights, no radio, no bed lamp. WTF??!?!?! I understand when $hit like this happens on my '66 Goat, cause damn...it's 39 years old. But the truck is barely two. What's goin' on? All of the fuses look fine, except for the parking lamp fuse under the hood. And, as far as the relays go, I cant tell if they're good or not.

Message: My buddy has an '03 4x4 CC 4.7L and the same thing happened to him a few months back. Everything started working again shortly afterwards but the dealer didn't know what happened when he took it there and told them. I don't think it's happened since.

Message: There is a master relay that controls a major circuity on the dakota that if not properly lubricated can freeze on cold weather. so the the electrical signal sent to it is not enough to create a field at the coil to attract the contact pole. I believe is under the hood and you can actually open this relay and use lithium grease to lubricate all moving parts. Good Luck!

Message: I've got a 2001 QC, that the radio and other accesories quit if I tilt the steering wheel all the way down. I'm going to check the wiring in the column one day.

Message: Just a couple of weeks ago a similar prob happened to me. I have a 03 4.7 quad. I was driving then my head lights went out. I stopped to get coffee, when i restarted my car my head lights worked but now the dash lights were out, the tail lights and my service 4wd light was on. It also read "no bus" in the odometer screen. It lasted for that day and has been fine ever since. I am bringing it to the dealer just to get it documented before my warranty expires.

Message: The relay and fuse housing is on the driver side behind the battery if you are looking at your truck from the front. is longated and under the protective cap there is a description of what each fuse and relay is for.
Good Luck!

Message: My '00 Dakota 4.7L Sport has similar weird problems. The order in which these problems occur are almost always the same. The airbag light comes on, then the ABS light at which time the speedometer stops working. Sometimes this goes away after a few seconds, but if not the engine light comes on, all gauges quit working, and the "no bus" message shows on the odometer, while it continues to run fine. This usually happens while I'm driving and doesn't last for more than 20 seconds or so. This problem started maybe back in December, and happens anywhere from once a week to once or twice a day. I live in Florida, so I am not sure cold weather is necessarily the culprit. I'm assuming it's more of a connection problem, but where?

Message: Ignacio, I have a friend wit the same problem. Check on the ABS sensor on your rear differential. I had a few people direct me there.
ScojoDak, I have an 03 and no problems electrically.
