Subject: manifold bolts IP: Logged
Message: Has anybody ever had any problems with their Exhust mainfold bolts just breaking??
I have 2000 dakota with the 4.7 and and after doing some looking when i heard an exhust leak I dicovered that the upper and lower rear manifold bolts on the passenger side broke off flush with with the manifold.

Message: Somebody probably over-tightened them. Or defective bolts.
2004 Service Manual specifies only 18ft/lb for all exhaust manifold bolts and studs, and 72in/lbs minus 45 degrees for heat shield nuts.

Message: Yea thats the only thing i can think of, its just odd how they would suddeny break like that.
I ordered new bolts and studs from my dealer and a new gasket, i should get it fixed tommorow. I hate driving around with it sounding like that untill it warms up. Anyways thanks for the torque specs.
