My 1999 Dakota has done the same thing, but then I remembered I have recently, due to colder temperatures, been allowing my truck to warm up 10 minutes each morning. Man that kills the mileage, but I can't ride in an icebox.

If you go by a NAPA store, they sell a couple good Chevron fuel additives. The one that has worked well for me is the Fuel Injector Cleaner. It comes in a black bottle. There is also a Fuel System Cleaner, but I've found the Fuel Injector Cleaner works best. Kinda pricey, but really cleans the squirt valves. Might help.

The most common culprit is a dirty throttle body. Spray some carb cleaner with the throttle blade held open, the sway inside with a rag over two fingers. The IAC motor may need to be removed and cleaned. Also check the PCV valve and spark plugs. I like STP injector cleaner (black bottle), and a few gallons of Shell's new V-Power 93 octane with 4 times the injector cleaners.
