Message: I test drove a 2000 4x4 cc 4.7 5 speed dakota for a friend and I have pretty much the same truck only its a 99 and a 5.2L 5 speed and my 5.2L would spank it hard if we raced. Both have limited slips same tires and wheels and 3.55 gears my 5.2L just has soo much more low end torque. 5 mph roll floor it and the 4.7 takes off floor my 5.2L and the tires are smokin and I've got better shocks and spring clamps on my truck this was stock for stock but my dakota isn't stock anymore. in the higher gears the 4.7 may win but the 5.2L wilol get it in the lower gears my truck had about 30,000 more miles on it than the truck with the 4.7

Message: 99dakota, it has been proven time after time after time, that the 4.7 is faster stock. If both engines are modified alike, the 4.7 is faster. From 2000 till now, this has been tested, argued over, and retested. Still wanna argue, come to NC and run my 4.7

Message: Wanna go fast??? Get a bike.
Wanna get a truck engine, go with the 5.2 or 5.9.
A nice low revving engine with good low RPM torque is what a truck needs, not a high revving fast engine. But, I treat my truck like a truck and not a wannbe racer ;-)

Message: I said my 5.2L would get it in the lower gears but once it gets in the higher gears the 4.7 may win. I ran a 15.6@92mph when my truck was stock and had 71,000 miles on it I have a 99 4x4 cc sport 5.2L 5 speed. I'm not argueing I'm just stating what I've found. I did test drive and allmost bought a brand new 2004 4x4 short bed ram 4.7L 5 speed it was a SXT model just above a st so I didn't have alot of options it had 3.55 gears. I know it was a ram and was heavier but my dak would have spanked it especialy down low I'm just used to alot of low end snap. I allso test drove a 4x4 auto 2001 ram 5.2L and a 2004 4x4 cc 4.7 offroad and the 2004 did have alot more power than the 2001 I don't know gear ratios of each but the 2001 felt kinda ragged out it had 60,000 miles the salesman was still trying to sell it to me even after I told him that.

Message: I trap 94@14.51. I better keep that little Red B!atch wound up tight, 'cause if I drop 2 mph I'll loose a whole second plus. WOW!
I do have to say that the 5.2L was available in the 2001 production year Ram, not the Dakota. Here is one for sale with a 5.2L and a 5 Speed.
The Engines stock for stock will be the 4.7L over the 5.2 every time. Fuel Economy, Towing and going fast. There is more performance parts available for the 5.2 (only 'cause it's a baby 360ci), but that is changing every day. The 4.7L is only a couple lbs different in torque than the 5.2L stock, weighs 60lbs less and has a flatter, broader torque curve, and did I say it gets better fuel mileage. Oh yeah I did. I tow with and race mine. It has so much low end torque I break loose on 295/50-16s with Trak Lok on dry asphalt every day in second gear acceleration at 25 to 40 mph. Not a clutch dump.
Now I know there is a whole bunch of 5.2L owners out there, proud as a peacock to drive them. And think that they are the Cat's Meow. They will naysay what I have posted here, that is their opinion based on pride (pride is good, but highly overated). The fact is (from a person that has owned Dodges with both engines) the 4.7L is a far superior engine to the 5.2L.

Message: I've got the timeslip somewhere around here and I could not get the truck to hook it had an open diff when I ran it and it was getting alot of wheelhop. on that run it grabed ok in 1st I hit 2nd and the tire spun wildly. I had the stock shocks with 71,000 miles on them everything was stock I had only had the truck a month. I was surprised at the trap speed but this was my first time at the strip. I only ran it in the 1st place because a bunch of friends were going and I couldn't take my 83 mercury Capri 5.0L because it wasn't inspected yet it was april at new england dragway opening night allmost 3 years ago. It was realy cold that night it was below freezing near the end of the night. I've now stoped modding my truck because I bought a bike. When I drove that 2000 dakota I thought it was going to beat my truck but I was surprised it didn't.
