Message: I just hooked up the tuner last night, and I set it for the 91 octane setting. I went out driving around and noticed a sound that was not normal at above 2800 or so RPM. I think it was spark knock. I don't understand why this is happening. I re-tunned the truck to the 87 octane setting and the sound was still there, but faint and only up around 4700 RPM. What I don't understand is, I have never ran anything other than 91 or above octane gas in this truck. Mabye somebody out there can give me a little insight on this. (99, 318, 5.2, heavy duty service group, 5-speed)

Message: Yea tried the same thing in my 01 R/T, and I dont understand why the spark nock is there when i've been useing 91 and up octane.I returned everything to stock on the computer settings,
i'm going to a shop in a week that will dyno my truck with and without the superchips, and figure the whole spark knock deal, I'll post my results after.

Message: this is a familiar one :-)
I put the tuner on my 99 and had the same experience. I found that it didn't ping on the 87 setting though, so I left it there and scratched my head. Then, it was pinging on the 87 in a couple months. I stopped scratching my head, and began scratching lower.
I checked my sparkplugs and found #6 and #8 were oiled up. I looked down the TB with a flashlight and saw oil. My belly pan on the intake manifold was leaking.
I changed it and voila :-) Now I run the perf setting with 89 octane and no pinging.
Check yours... could be?

Message: Winter gas maybe? When I was doing a bit of tuning on my WRX
with a UTEC unichip I had to pull timing quite a bit in the winter
months. I always ran 93 octane and sometimes 94 when I had
access to it at a Sunoco. My settings were tuned for 91 octane.
Come winter time I would get detonation because of the junk
gas that comes our way in the northern states.
Could be your problem.

Message: That could be it , i do live in CT so the gas problem is a posibility, but i'm going to my buddies shop in a week and i'm going to work all the problems out. Most likely change the spark plugs,

Message: I got mine tuner just before Xmas, I uploaded the performance program and it woke my truck up. My 102k truck now has the pep, if not more, than it had when it was new.
I admit to taking it out to an open stretch of back road near my house and from a stop, I laid about 15 feet of rubber from a dead stop when before it would not even spin.
Night & day my friends.
