Message: Hello all,
I have a 98 Dak Sport V6 right now, i am looking into a V8 00 Dak Quadcab 4.7L. I was wondering what kind of miles per gallon does this v8 get? This will be my deciding factor i do believe. Thanks and keep up the posts.

Message: Well, I have the 00 qc 4x4 5.9 and I am getting 10.8 in the city when I drive like a bankrobber everywhere. If I take it easy, I can see 11.8 or even 12.2 avg.
On the highway, I am seeing 15-16mpg with the tailgate up and I saw 18mpg on my last short trip with the gate down. A tonneau cover is in the works.
I think the 5.9 is a better choice as it just lumbers around town and the gibson catback made a great difference in both power and fuel. The truck just feels so smooth and strong that I think it should last forever.
Just my $0.02 but I think the 5.9 is a better choice.

Message: Hi,I agree with you aggie97,if your going to get a V8 go with the 5.9.I have a 2001 QC 4.7 4x4 that I'm trading on a new 2002 QC 5.9.After I got my 4.7 I wished I went the 5.9 just a better motor to me for around $600 extra, plus if your going to get a new one might as well go all the way options.Me 01 truck got smacked in the front end by a 97 camaro,he came from other side of interstate and hit us headon. My Dakota ate half of the Camaro.I must say the Dakota did very well with the accident, but man the repair was $16,000.Well I have to stop writing because I can go on for days with this story. The only good thing is this time I ordered the 5.9.Laters Brian
