I recently bought a 2001 Dakota V8 with no owners manual and the repair manual has not been released yet (coming soon). Is it normal for the oil pressure to lean way to the left once the truck warms up? What is this an indication of and what I can I do to help it. Should I not worry about it?

Whats the reading when it warms up. The minimum spec. if its a 318 or 3.9 is 6 psi. at idle when warm. But as long as it not pegging all the way to the left, thats normal. When oil warms up it becomes thinner, therefore lower pressure at lower rpms

seth, if it's an '01 v8 it's either a 4.7 or 5.9.
derrick, try changing the oil first.
the DC Factory service manual for a 4.7 states-
oil pressure @ idle= 4 psi, 3000 rpm = 25-80 psi.
these factory gauges leave a lot to be desired as far as accuracy. check it by installing a mechanical gauge in place of the stock sending. if it is lower than normal, drop the oilpan and check/ clean the oil pump pick-up screen.

dang, our 4.7's are 4 psi at idle...lol...seems kinda like the knocking limit...my old chevy 350 was 80-85 at idle.Look around on this site the 4.7's have a problem with the oil pump clogging up...mines already blown up.But as far as the oil pan and the screen to be cleaned its a $400 job so if you wanna go that route i would try to do it yourself.
