i like the bolt on method..
kn gen2 cold air intake.
50 or 52 mm FB throttle body.
mopar pcm or BG flash.
m1 2bbl intake.
180 stat.
mopar or gsm headers.
2.5" true duals or 3.5" single exhaust.
1.7 rockers.
2800 stall convertor...debatable on this.
slicks.
that should net you high 13's or same as most stock L's.
if you get the traction right might get mid 13's.
add 150 shot nos and timing retard should get mid 12's and will take most L's not all.
or instead of nos install 9 psi blower for mid 12's.

islander is exactly right. i have the combo he listed but without the stall and with gibson headers on a regular cab r/t. i pulled a 14.2 at 97.7mph with a horrible 2.3 sec 60ft time. with a trap speed of almost 98mph, the truck is capable of a 13.8 or even a 13.5 with slicks.

Compare the two. One has a supercharger the other does not. It is not a straight comparo to start with.
To make things even, compare a Ram 1500 with a Hemi and a supercharger. Even in mild tune that combo would crank out 425-450HP. They would both be full size, close to the same displacement/weight.
Or put a s-charger on the R/T, put out about 375hp and be smaller, lighter (and better looking).

howabout.. we all wait for the 05 lightning that supposed to have 500hp and race it agaist a 05 SRT-10.. cause dakotas are just not in the same league as them unless u spend thousands of dollars on aftermarket stuff.. which either the lighning and the srt-10 can do to and still smoke a dakota.. cause i know i would love to see a head to head shoot out between the two trucks

If you wait for the "New" Lightning get prepared to age.
The Lightning program is scrapped indefintely as Ford wants to concentrate it's effort on the New Cobra.
As for what you need to beat a Lightning ... bolt on's work, but you will need all of them, including slicks.
....or just throw a Blower on that works for me :-)

There is always some excuse or what not when the question is asked about how to be a Lightning. Someone said it isn't a fair comparo because one has a s/c. That is one of the most pathetic excuses I have heard. Think of a better one.

well, you say that if you spend thousands of dollars on parts on the r/t to make it go faster, but look at what yoru paying for the r/t compared to the lightning. i paid 14 for my 02 dakota r/t. and if i put another 16grand into in aftermarket parts, i would then be at the same price as a lighting, and b in the 10-11s q/m. that is saying a lightning is about 30grand. which i think is correct.

Lets try and be realistic for a minute. 9 out of 10 people who spend $16K on a R/T will not be able to spend an additional $16K in aftermarket modifications. Chance are that if they could, they might have purchased a new Lightning to begin with. Furthermore, what the hell is the sense in comparing the price of a new Lightning to that of a used R/T? The answer is simple: It doesn't make sense.

It is correct to compare a L'ning to a Dak. Then let's compare a Ranger to a Hemi Ram. Apples and oranges, if you will. There is no fair comparo between a L'ning and any Dak, R/T or not because a Dak does not have a s'charger. That's not a lame excuse, it's a fact. Yes the L'ning is faster, BECAUSE it has a s'charger. Period.
If your going to compare two vehicles you should at least start with SOME commomality, the the same size, weight, displacement, method of aspiration etc. None of which these two have in common.
