Subject: New Camshaft and M1? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 98 318 2wd ext. cab i curently have a K&n cold air intake, home ported Tb.,crane ingnition, mopar headers, 3inch exhaust, and mopar pcm. With a new agressive camshaft and m1 intake and 3.90 gears would it be a night and day differance? what kind of power could i expect to gain?> I know there kinda dumb questions but i really dont know what to expect so i am curious thank you

Message: The heads/cam combo is important-- Too much flow, cam mismatch and you'll have a bad combo.
The setup on my 5.9L has netted me 47 rwhp (over M1, 1.7s, headers already in place)-- Overall combo 300 rwhp (96 rwhp over stock) 340 tq. (70 rwtq over stock) increase--- and -- passed CA. smog sniffer test.
It's a small cam, non ported 1.92 R/T head combo. I would expect similar results for a 5.2L--

Message: The 3.90 gears will make a dramatic difference, especially if you have a limited slip diff. to help hook it up. Even in the old '89 Shelby's, passengers would get their necks stretched and bump their heads on the rear window (standard cab) on takeoff and 1-2 shift. Naturally, the lack of power was obvious once things got going, but the gearing is a great way to feel that night-and-day difference coming off the line, or in a slow speed moment when the tranny kicks down to first at full throttle.

Message: You will notice a difference. On my GenII, I noticed a pretty big difference just with the M1 and a PCM. 1.7s and the Mopar RT cam is a real good combo for the 318, not so good in a 360. That is the route I decided to go, just waiting for the right time to get everything installed. Plus I got a real good deal on the cam and rockers. I ported my TB and I could also tell the difference after that as well. A lot of people have bumped their gearing up from 3.21/3.55 to the 3.92 or 4.10s and reported excellent results. I decided to go with 4.10s on my truck. Yet another mod waiting for time to install. Sitting in my garageright now with a new LSD. Have fun.
