Subject: Are the recalled joints gona b different IP: Logged
Message: I had my ball joints replaced under warranty 1 week ago on my 2002 by the dealer. Will the recalled ball joints be different than the ones I just had put in?

Message: I had my wife's ball joints done a month ago and got my recall notice Saturday. I was told by the stealership that they would be replacing the bad ones with greasable ball joints but in the end they were not greasable. My stealership also said that these were not the same pieces of crap that were originally put on.
My OEM ones started clunking within the first 12k miles with them finally being replaced at 15k. That means I have 85k miles left to see if they are the same pieces of crap as were originally installed.

Message: All of the recall ball joints are not greasable. Keep in mind that this is not why they failed! Most suspension joints are no longer greaseable on ALL cars not just yours. If the grease does not seep out of the joint and there are no tears in the protective boot, there is no need to grease the joint (if the grease was properly applied during manufacturing). If the ball joint was actually greaseable, most likely it would be ruptured by OVER greasing by most lube shops. More commonly, greasing is completely overlooked (due to the fact that grease fittings are quite rare on newer vehicles). The info that I have recieved indicates the failure is caused by poor sealing of the joint, allowing moisture to enter and corrode the joint causing cavitation and a loose fit. Believe that or not! I can only relay the info that I get. I believe that it is a result of poor assembly by the manufacturer, which by the way, is not chrysler but a company by the name of TRW. TRW manufactures many different parts for many different car makers. Like ball joints, tie rods, sway bar bushings, key fobs, keyless entry modules, security, HVAC controls, body control modules just to name a few. I probably should not point fingers at the sublet suppliers as they do what they are told and payed to do by the customer (car makers) and are also instructed to do it as cheap as possible, but as long as people are doing the work, mistakes can and will be made occasionally. It is kind of funny if you think about it, mistakes by people while building the product lead to recalls that are also performed by people. Except now the people performing the recalls are rushed to get it done due to the people that own the vehicle not having any patience! Could there be a recall on a recall?

Message: Is the entire upper suspension arm being replaced or are they drilling out the rivets and replacing just the joint?

Message: The procedure for the recall includes replacing both upper ball joints and making toe adjustments. Upper control arms are not affected by this recall.
