Message: You can't get a "regular" Dakota with a 5.9. That's about it.
The suspension and handling are hardly worthy of the R/T logo. A truck with a small block engine is a long way from being a muscle car. When you compare it to the R/T's of the 60's and 70's, it's an insult. But, I guess if it sells trucks, that's all that matters.

Message: the only other dakota you could get a 5.9 in other than an r/t is in a quad cab and i think that they started making them in 2000. I think the suspension and handling are worth every bit of the r/t name. its got the biggest motor available in a small truck and it handles like a car. i have alot of curvy roads where i live and my truck is one of the best automobiles that i have driven on them. my avenger handled real good on the turns because it was low and wide tires, my r/t blows it away. r/t...road/track

Message: -~1" lower than stock 2wd Dakotas
-17" wheels vs. 15 or 16 inch for regular
-5.9 engine vs. 5.2 or 4.7 (unless you have a quad cab, then the 5.9 was availible)
-46RE trans vs. 44RE, or 45RE? (again, unless you have quad cab with the 5.9, then the 46RE)
-Painted bumpers
Thats all I can think of at the moment, I think there are more differences.

Seems to me that the anti sway bars may be bigger, anyone?

Message: The R/T rear sway bar is a larger diameter than the one on a Sport Plus. I'm not 100% sure, but the front bar seems to be the same.

Message: Sway bars have varied from year to year and it depends on what you order i.e. Sport, SLT and whether it came with a towing package or heavy duty suspension. Gearing was also and option and I think it varied with different years in the R/T.
Some R/T owners still ditch the stock suspension package, including sway bars, as inadequate. DC could have done much more to the Dakota before throwing an R/T label on it.
